Description
Provenance marks are the bookplates, inscriptions, bindings, stamps, and other marks that tell us who owned books. From the signature of Benjamin Franklin, to the stamp of a French monastery, to the inscription of an unidentified 17th-century woman, the provenance marks in this exhibit show the way people have claimed ownership of books from the Middle Ages through the present day. The exhibit showcases original items whose provenance marks are among the 12,000 digital images available on the Kislak Center's Provenance Online Project, or POP: https://provenanceonlineproject.wordpress.com/
