In 1969 Reginald H. Jones, Wharton 1939, established this fund in memory of his father-in-law, Edwin B. Cole, to purchase books for the reference collection.

At the time, one of Mr. Jones' classmates noted in a letter to Mrs. Cole: "There is nothing more enduring than libraries...they are the heart of the University."
