Description

John Pollack (Curator, Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts), Deb Stewart (Head, Penn Museum Library), and Museum Library intern Cheyenne Riehl will be holding a special Off the Shelf pop-up event at the Museum Library.

We mark the reopening of the Museum’s Mexico & Central America Gallery with an examination of written and printed sources for the history and cultures of México in the colonial and early postcolonial eras. We will consider topics including conquest and conversion; religion and authority; and the survival of indigenous languages. On view will be documents from the collections of Carl Hermann Berendt and Daniel Garrison Brinton, long centerpieces of the anthropological collections of the Penn Libraries; from the Henry Charles Lea Library; and from more recent donations including the Sydney S. Keil Collection and the William Helfand gift.
